How i beat it !
This is my experience. It has taken me around 7 years to get to this point. It involved a lot of patience, research, experimenting to see what was right for me and just trying to stay positive.
I now have a pain free cycle (every 27 to 35 days) and only bleed for an average of 5 days. My thyroid is working (daily temperature above 36.6), I have no breast cysts and I do not need to use progestrone anymore. My endometrioma continues against allĀ odds to decrease in size. It is currently 43mm
I have continued (and will continue)with the iodine protocol (taking it orally, painting it on my breasts ,vitamin supplementation, hormone testing and yearly scanning)
My advice is that there is light at the end of the tunnel. It will take time however it can be done. You too can get your life back
Where do I start???
I started to keep a diary to record what was happening to me. My symptoms were my clues - what were they trying to tell me about my underlying health.
suggestions for management from my consultant - taking prescribed medication (tranexamic acid) whilst bleeding, fitting of a coil or endometrial ablation. The worse case scenario was hysterectomy, however this would not be considered unless I had tried all the suggested treatments
I decided that a coil or surgery was not for me at this point in time and even though I was reluctant to use it I started taking the prescribed medication. This lasted for 2 cycles - it made me nauseous and it was doing nothing for the pain
At this point in my life I would have agreed to anything. However I went away to think through my options and what dawned on me was the fact that all of these treatments were just a sticking plaster. I had not found out the root cause which needed to be addressed in order to start my healing process
To keep this simple I will list the steps that I followed. A more in depth explanation of how all these symptoms are linked and why you need the supplements can be found here Here
1. Hormone saliva test - This is very important to do before supplementing with any hormone therapy
2. Transdermal progesterone cream for days 13-28 of cycle. 1/4 of a tsp each day rubbed initially on to the back of your wrists. You do not want to saturate an area of skin so you can also rub into your breasts, use as a face & neck moisturiser and the backs of your knees.
3. LUGOLS IODINE - start very slowly - a single drop (about 6mg) each day in a cup of tea and then slowly working up to 50mg (over the course of the day) for at least 2 months.
Please remember to listen to your body and if you feel uncomfortable/bad/anxious then lower your dose.
4. SELENIUM - a good quality is needed to protect the thyroid as adequate selenium levels are necessary for regulating thyroid function and metabolism. Selenium also helps convert T4, the inactive form of thyroid, to T3, the active form of thyroid.
5. VITAMIN C (not to be taken at the same time as the iodine) is important as it aids with clearing your sodium/iodine symporters (Have a look at the video links for Dr Jorge Flechas)
6. ATP Cofactors' which is a combination of vitamins B-2 & B-3 with Riboflavin and Niacin that support your thyroid and mitochondria
7. Unrefined Salt (Celtic): 1/2 tsp or more per day in a glass of filtered water .This will support the adrenals, reduce oxidative stress & most importantly help get iodine into the cells via the NIS (sodium iodide symporter)
8. record your basal body temperature using a mercury free thermometer
9. Liver cleansing - if your liver is not able to process your estrogen it will be reabsorbed back into your body
10.Establish and maintain healthy gut bacteria as this will escort estrogen safely out of your body - unhealthy bacteria do the opposite and cause estrogen to be reabsorbed by the body
11.Curcumin to relieve period pain, inflammation and lighten menstrual flow. It also inhibits the development of new blood vessels that feed fibroids & Endo
12.Diet - try to eliminate foods that inflame - dairy, wheat, gluten etc
13. Reduce your exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals - Fluroide, Bromine & Chlorine (as these are all similar halogens and replace/block iodine receptors), additionally plastics/phalates, parabens , BPA , SLS etc are estrogen mimics,
